Is Size What Really Matters?

Looking at the work of others can be very inspiring. But sometimes it can be discouraging too. You can’t help but think about your own work and do that very thing that you shouldn’t do; compare yourself.  I work on paper. Often small pieces but nothing larger than an 8×10 drawing on smooth Bristol board. Everybody else it seems work on these epic size canvases or drawing sheets. Which leave me wondering, is it really all about size? Is that what makes a work of art more impressive than others? The sheer magnitude of it?

  1. I would say nope! I follow someone on Instagram that mainly does these amazing works of art on small pieces of paper, post-it size. You may be aware of who I’m talking about cause she is pretty popular on IG but yeah, size don’t matter when it comes to art. I love it in all sizes! 🙂

  2. Maybe you’re just personally more impressed by larger works? For myself, I guess I assume artists working on larger artworks must be selling well. (Otherwise where do they keep their unsold art…? 🙂 Your artwork is beautiful and so painstakingly rendered larger works would take a long time to complete, but I wouldn’t call them less impressive than larger artworks.

    1. It’s not that I’m impressed, it’s what I mostly see at least in the galleries and art shows in my area. So it makes me wonder is there a preference for larger works?
