A Brief Thought

Mourning the absence of my softness in this aggressive world. I may have been taught to survive but I was never taught how to live.

Next Up…Peacocks

“Maybe…I’ll forget you some other time.” ~ Alina Baraz

It’s on to another project. This time I’m feeling a bit more ambitious and got myself prepped to work on a 9×12 piece that will involve peacocks. Yes, peacocks. Honestly, I don’t know why peacocks came to mind, it just hit me last night and has stuck with me ever since, so peacocks it is. I’ve been doing a little research and apparently in Chinese culture, peacocks symbolize beauty, divinity and power. It was the symbol of the Ming Dynasty and is also associated with the goddess Guan Yin, which I have a little statue of on my bookshelf. Maybe She imprinted the image in my mind to tell me something. 😊
Anyhoo, I haven’t figured out the base drawing yet but I’m sure it will involve A LOT of details and feathers. This drawing will definitely take a minute to complete. But before I get to scribbling any ideas, I’m ’bout due for a nap. It’s been a challenging day with computer software crashing, printers acting crazy, burning up hotdogs and dipping a little too low on the “Snake Creeps Through Grass” movement during Tai Chi so now I’m walking funny. But I did manage to put together a short promo clip for my drawing “Maybe”. Be sure to check it out below.

This Saturday Morning

…has kicked off to tummy aches and the nauseating burnt smell of sweet potatoes, when all the water has boiled out of the steamer, that you completely forgot about while trying to nurse your aching stomach. I keep telling myself to eat smaller meals because I’m not fortunate enough to have a cast iron, garbage disposal for a gut, which seems to have a fit at the slightest over load or meeting of a new ingredient. Guess I won’t be getting fries with my Chicken Tawook again. I, so wanted to just curl up on the couch and suffer with my defeat but I opted to squeeze in at least 45 minutes of stippling to bring me closer to finishing my 8×6 drawing of “Maybe”. I had been mulling over how to stipple white lilies without using too much ink but yet not so little that they indistinguishable from the background. It requires a delicate placement of dots to hint at shadows without giving the impression of a hue. I’ve concluded that I might need a smaller nibbed pen and I can only imagine the time it would take to finish a work at such a smaller size but for the effect, I think it will be well worth it. So I’m off to look for a new pen. Hope all is well with you lovelies this Saturday. 😊

A Blanket To Protect You

“Your love
Should never be offered to the mouth
Of a Stranger,
Only to someone
Who has the valor and daring
To cut pieces of their soul off with a knife
Then weave them into a blanket
To protect you.” ~ Hafiz

Everyone isn’t entitled access to the inner workings of your soul. Only those who have earned the privilege should be given a peek into the mystery of your being.

Experimenting With Motion Graphics

It’s amazing what you can do with a smartphone and a few apps now a days. I’ve been experimenting with motion graphics and video to put together short video clips to highlight my art and works in progress and I’ve having a lot of fun doing so. I created the following clip with an app called Quik, which can be found in the Google Play app store, if you’re an Android used like myself. I have no idea if it’s available for iPhones also, so you’ll have to check and see for yourself if you’re an Apple user. I’m pretty sure if they don’t have Quik, they’ll have something just as good, if not better.
Check out the video below and feel free to share your thoughts in the comments. 😊
