Excuse To Be A Hermit

(work in progress)

It’s been pretty cold here in my neck of the woods as of late and it’s expected to get even colder as the week progresses on. Out of concern for safety my other half’s employer has given everyone the next two days off. So we’ve stocked up on hot cocoa and stuff to make a variety of soups in anticipation of spending the next few days curled up on the couch reading, drawing and consuming warm liquids. Even though it’s going to be dangerously cold, I enjoy times like this. Life seems to slow down a bit and the weather gives me a legitimate excuse to be a hermit so that I can spend my time doing my work without that little devil on my shoulder beckoning me to get out the house. Winter time is when I’m most productive.

Day Of Love

“Lovebirds” – linework.

So Valentine’s Day is coming up soon. I always like to do a piece in honor of the day since it’s one of my two favorite holidays, the other being Thanksgiving. I typically enjoy Valentine’s day not for all the lovey dovey stuff but rather because my better half and I have an excuse to go out and buy a big box of chocolates and then sit around all day eating them like two little kids. We’re lovey dovey on a daily basis so we don’t need a special day to remind each other how much we care for one another. But we really do love chocolate and we jump at any excuse to go out and get some. 😋

Anyhoo, I wanted to do some more work with birds so I got around to sketching up something I felt was adorable and expressed the sentiments of tenderness and love.

In Another Life…

“Olive” (wip)

…I must of been one of those Tibetan Buddhist monks that did sand mandalas. That is the only reasonable explanation I can conjure up for how I can sit for hours, hunched over, tapping little dots of ink on to a piece of paper to form images. It may be a little far fetched but it sounds much more interesting than my usual response of “I’m insane.” whenever friends and family asks me “How can you sit there and do that?” Truth be told, it’s a mystery even to me but a past life as a Buddhist sand mandala making monk works, so that’s my story and I’m sticking with it. 😋

Anyhoo, I’ve got another layer of ink to lay down on this adorable puppy face. Luckily the body is mostly white or I might end up having to buy another pack of pens.
